The following e-mail was just sent by one of our neighbors:
Alderman Harry Osterman will convene the first Sheridan Road Town Hall Meeting of his administration tonight at St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Road. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is free parking.
Due to the recent roof fire at Thorndale Beach North, preceded by an earlier construction fire in the 5700 block, the Alderman has added a special presentation to the agenda. The Chicago Fire Department will be advising us on high and mid rise fires and appropriate steps to take.
The Alderman has been participating in City of Chicago budget hearings these past weeks and made an eloquent presentation on the need to keep the Condo Garbage Rebate. It has been in the budget since 1985 and was placed there “because condominium and cooperative owners in high-rise buildings don’t receive city sanitation service, though they pay for it in property taxes” according to a Chicago Tribune report of 7/15/1985.
Osterman will report on his other budget efforts, economic development and the status of plans to rebuild Sheridan Road.
Defunding of the Condo Garbage Rebate will cost each Sheridan Road resident about $75.00. Even though Osterman is the leader in the Council for refunding the project, it is important Sheridan Road residents show they care about this effort.
